Large bee with a yellow thorax and black abdomen. Its wings have purple iridescence. Unlike the similar Yellow-and-black Carpenter Bee (X. flavonigrescens), the sides of its face have white hairs and the first segment of its abdomen does not have yellow hairs. Males are entirely covered with yellow hair.
