In non-breeding plumage, this egret can be differentiated from other similar egrets by a combination of features, greenish facial skin, thick dagger-like bill, greenish-yellow legs and feet, two-tone bill (black towards tip and yellow towards base). Moves very actively when feeding, which is a characteristic behaviour for this egret.
