This termite species is a close relative of the better known G. sulpureus. Both species(along with other members of their genus) are known to employ a rather interesting defense strategy. If invaded by ants, Soldiers would try to grab and pierce attackers. If this does not work, they will explosively expel sticky substances that harden in contact with air from a gland. Sometimes contracting muscles to expel these substances can be so hard that soldiers may rupture themselves.
